September 2009 Article

Dear BSGE Student:
With enthusiasm, pride and the promise of the collective commitment of faculty and staff, I open my arms wide to welcome you to a new year at The Baccalaureate School for Global Education (BSGE). I welcome new students to the BSGE experience and I welcome returning back home.
New BSGE family members, by now you may be wondering exactly what you’ve enrolled yourself into and I don’t blame you. As you acclimate to your classes and become acquainted with your new classmates, do not be intimidated by the high expectations of your teachers or discouraged by the academic rigor. If you are feeling a bit out of place or overwhelmed you are not alone, most students feel this way at first.    Be assured that members of your BSGE family will assist you as you transition into this school community and will be with you throughout your journey here.
As you settle in and possibly begin to ponder if this community is right for you know that your uniqueness is valuable to this family, so let your authentic light shine. Your uniqueness need not be a hindrance or the challenges you’ll face deterrents. Let this merely be the texture of your design.
Recently I’ve come to appreciate the lyrics of people whose path and journey are very different from my own but whose words are none-the-less inspirational. The chorus or hook below is from a song titled “Ambitious”. It was written by two millionaire young men who people thought would be defined by the circumstances of their births, neighborhoods, early occupations and the achievements, or lack of, of others like them. Limitations were placed on these young men’s possibilities, not because of their own potential and dreams but because of people’s inability to see beyond their own failures and the failures of others.

The motivation for me is them telling me what I could not be, oh well.
I’m so ambitious ___ ____ ____ ___
Hey I’m on a mission, no matter what the conditions.
Forget personal issues, when you’ve go what I’ve been through.
Hey if you can believe it, then be then you can conceive it, you see.
The motivation for me is them telling me what I could not be, oh well.

Your path to the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma may not be easy or smooth but if you can envision your- self receiving it, and you are willing put forth the effort to achieve it, than you can earn the IB Diploma. Your destiny should not be defined by people’s perceptions of you, but by your perception of self. With hard work even you may be surprised at what you achieve, oh well......
