As ninth graders, we all take health. Though our teachers might be different, we all essentially learn the same things. We learn what are good foods to eat, how to exercise and not get fat, and different exercising styles. Personally, I enjoy health and look forward to it every week. The thing I don’t understand is why people are now complaining and asking for gym. I remember gym from seventh and eighth grade. Gym was fun too. I looked forward to Gym when I was in those grades, but I have just one question: WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN GYM AND HEALTH ?
Maybe there is something wrong with me, though it’s not likely, but I can’t get why people are begging gym to be returned. Gym is the same thing as health to me, both always leave me smelly and sweaty, both classes at some point make me want to pass out and both classes include points from the teacher on how not to get fat or obese(which ever one sounds better to you). Why would anyone want to replace health with gym? Don’t get me wrong, I did say I liked both, but health seems a lot more appealing to me. First of all, not only do you exercise you also learn about why the exercise is good, and what it prevents. Gym is just physical movement with no reason behind it. To me as a high school student gym is to simple for us now. Why would you want to do pointless exercise, without any reason or explanation to why you’re doing it. That’s why health is a better alternative. Not only do you train, you also get a motive for why.
I don’t get why everyone is so whiny all of a sudden. I may like health, and if you don’t like it get over it. No one is going to change anything just because you don’t like a subject. I don’t like a lot of the subjects I take but I can’t say, “Oh I really don’t like math, I want to take taxidermy”, and expect to be taken seriously. No one would care, just like no one cares about any of you wanting gym. Some of you might be thinking about that petition. Well, I got some news for ya. A bunch of kids signatures is worth less that my pinky toe to a bunch of teachers, and to tell you the truth about half of you need to go back to third grade and take the cursive lesson again, because your signatures look like chicken scratch, (another reason why the petition is virtually worthless). I am not saying that the petition was a stupid idea because it was actually genius. As minors it is one of the most powerful things we have on our side, and whoever came up with it, (we all know who) is probably one of the smartest kids in our grade, he or she should be commended. Bravo! Unfortunately, we have no rights what so ever and our teachers all know these so don’t keep your hopes up.                                        Signed, TAG’
