Interview with BSGE’s Nurse – Mireille Desarme

What is your cultural background?

I was born in Haiti.

What are some of your hobbies?

I like to read and travel.

What languages do you speak?

I speak Creole, French and English.

How did you become a nurse?

I attended Long Island University Brooklyn Campus.

Did you always want to be a nurse growing up?

As a young girl in my country, a nurse would visit my house. Since then, I have always had the desire to pursue this career.

What is the best part of being a nurse?

The best part of being a nurse is to see people get better and healthy after I have taken care of them.

What is the worst part of being a nurse?

Previously working in a hospital, unfortunately I have been a witness to death; to me this is the worst part of being a nurse.

What are some activities you do outside of school?

I love to go to my house of worship.

How do you like working in BSGE?

The staff is like a big family and I enjoy helping students.

What is something unique about the student body, how has it compared to other schools you’ve been to?

Working with high school students is more rewarding to me than other students.

Why did you become a nurse?

I became a nurse to provide care for those who are sick and unwell.

Favorite food?

I like seafood.

Tea or coffee?

I prefer tea.

Favorite place to eat?

My favorite place to eat is Bernardin, located in Manhattan, which is an exquisite seafood and French restaurant.
