BSGE Lady Sting musters more hits but falls 7-2 to Queens High School Complex in first loss of the season

BSGE Lady Sting lost 7-2 in seven innings on Friday, May 1st, despite outhitting Queens High School Complex eight to four.

Emily Costa put herself in scoring position with two extra-base hits for BSGE Lady Sting. She singled in the first inning, tripled in the third inning, and doubled in the fifth inning.

Claire Bergerson was in control in the circle after taking over for Costa in relief. Queens High School Complex managed just one hit off of Bergerson, who allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out three during her 2 1/3 innings of work.

Samantha Martinez recorded the win for Queens High School Complex. She allowed two runs over seven innings. Samantha Martinez struck out four, walked one and gave up eight hits.

Costa couldn’t get it done on the rubber for BSGE Lady Sting, taking a loss. She allowed seven runs in 3 2/3 innings, walked four and struck out five.

In the top of the first, Queens High School Complex grabbed the early lead, 1-0. Queens High School Complex’s threat began with a single by Pilar Rodriguez. A stolen base then moved Rodriguez from first to second.

BSGE Lady Sting answered Queens High School Complex’s top inning with one run of its own in the first on an RBI single by Bergerson.

Queens High School Complex stayed on top until the final out after taking the lead in the fourth, scoring two runs on a groundout by Lori Mujaxhi.

Queens High School Complex tacked on another three runs in the fifth. A clutch ground out scored Tiffany Domingo to open the scoring in the frame.

This was BSGE’s first loss of the season and their overall record stands at 12-1, with a 9-1 record in the division.
