Costa allows no hits, drives in 6 as BSGE defeats Young Women’s Leadership 20-0

Emily Costa was great on Tuesday, allowing no hits Lady Sting’s 20-0 victory over Young Women’s Leadership School.

No Young Women’s Leadership batter was able to locate Costa’s pitches during the game. Costa allowed no hits, striking out seven batters and walking three while recording the win.

Sixteen runs in the first three innings helped Lady Sting Softball blow out Young Women’s Leadership . An RBI single by Nina Don, a two-run double by Costa, an RBI single by Jamie Carroll, an RBI triple by Amanda Eng, and during the first inning and a two-run home run by Costa, an RBI double by Eng, an RBI single by Jennifer Shin, an RBI single by Jenny Tieu, and a home run by Don in the second inning helped Lady Sting Softball put some runs on the board early.

Both Jamie Carroll and Amanda Eng contributed to the effort at the plate, both going 4 for 4. Costa also racked up six RBIs on three hits for Lady Sting.

BSGE Lady Sting Hand Academy of American Studies First Loss, 18-0, BSGE Takes Sole Possession of First Place

Lady Sting Softball jumped out to an early lead on Academy of American Studies and captured an 18-0 victory on Monday at Big Bush Park.

The game was decided quickly as Lady Sting Softball exerted its will early with 12 runs in the first three innings.

A three-run triple by Emily Costa, an RBI single by Claire Bergerson, and an RBI single by Maya Juman in the first inning and a three-run home run byNina Don during the second inning helped Lady Sting Softball put some runs on the board early.

Lady Sting Softball hit three home runs in the win. Additional home runs for Lady Sting Softball came when Rakia Islam homered in the fourth inning and Costa homered in the fourth inning.

Costa racked up eight RBIs on three hits for Lady Sting Softball.

Lady Sting Softball built upon its lead with four runs in the third. A bases loaded walk scored Juman to get Lady Sting Softball on the board in the inning. That was followed up by Costa’s double, plating Marika CygertAngelica Benares and Islam.

Lady Sting Softball added six more runs in the bottom of the fourth. A passed ball scored Jamie Carroll for the inning’s first run. That was followed up by Jennifer Qu‘s single, scoring Cygert.

BSGE is currently 7-0 and have outscored their opponents 136-7 this season.

Lady Sting jump on Long Island City HS early and coast to 15-2 win

Lady Sting Softball jumped out to an early lead on Long Island City and captured a 15-2 victory on Thursday at Big Bush Park.

Nine runs in the first three innings allowed Lady Sting Softball to put the game away early.

A two-run triple by Nina Don, an RBI double by Emily Costa, and an RBI single by Claire Bergerson in the first inning and an error during the second inning supplied the early offense for Lady Sting Softball.

Costa racked up six RBIs on three hits for Lady Sting Softball. Her grand slam in the bottom of the fifth ended the game by giving BSGE a 13 run victory by the mercy rule.

Bergerson brought the heat against Long Island City during her outing. Long Island City managed just three hits off of the Lady Sting’s pitcher, who allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out five during her five innings of work.

Two Long Island City runs crossed the plate in the top half of the third, making the score 5-2. An error and an RBI single by Martinez fueled Long Island City’s comeback.

Lady Sting Softball answered Long Island City’s top inning with four runs of its own in the third. Lady Sting Softball scored on a two-run single by Maya Juman, an RBI single by Marika Cygert, and a wild pitch.

Lady Sting Softball increased its lead with five runs in the fifth. A single by Rakia Islam ignited the offense, bringing home Angelica Benares.

Claire Bergerson allows no hits, drives in four, as Lady Sting Softball defeats Information Tech HS 24-1

Claire Bergerson was untouchable on Tuesday, allowing no hits in four innings in BSGE Lady Sting’s 24-1 victory over Information Tech HS.

No Info Tech batter was able to locate Bergerson’s pitches during the game. Bergerson struck out six batters and walked three. She got Giemay Manuel to ground out for the final out of the game.

Emily Costa rocked Info Tech with two home runs. Costa went 2-4 in the game with five RBIs and four runs scored. Costa homered in the second and third innings. Bergerson and Catcher Rakia Islam also hit home runs with four and five RBIs respectively.

Jennifer Qu went 5 for 5 with three runs scored and two stolen bases.

Lady Sting Softball easily handled Information Tech pitching as seven hitters combined for 17 hits, 20 RBIs and 21 runs scored.

Queens HS Complex falls 14-2 at the hands of Lady Sting

BSGE Lady Sting beat Queens Complex on Monday 14-2 at Big Bush Park in five innings.

Lady Sting scored five runs in the fourth on Lady Sting Softball scored in the fourth on a groundout by Nina Don, an RBI double by Claire Bergerson, a walk by Amanda Eng, and a wild pitch.

Jennifer Qu reached base four times and scored four runs with three walks and a single.

Bergerson handled Queens Complex ‘s lineup with ease, racking up eight strikeouts. Bergerson allowed one earned run on three hits and no walks over five innings.

Lady Sting Softball didn’t relinquish the lead after scoring two runs in the first inning when it scored on.

Lady Sting Softball tacked on another three runs in the third. A error scored Jennifer Qu for the inning’s first run. That was followed up by Bergerson’s single, bringing home Rakia Islam and Don.

BSGE is currently 4-0.

Emily Costa allows no hits over 4 innings, goes 4 for 4 at the plate as BSGE defeats Young Women’s Leadership Academy 24-1

Emily Costa was great on Friday, allowing no hits over four innings in Lady Sting Softball’s 24-1 victory over Young Women’s Leadership (YWL) .

No Young Women’s Leadership (Queens, NY) batter was able to locate Costa’s pitches during the game. Costa struck out nine batters and walked five over four innings. She got Dinna Mohamed to strike out for the final out of the game.

Costa also rocked Young Women’s Leadership with two home runs as well. Costa went 4-4 in the game with five RBIs and four runs scored. Costa homered in the second and third innings.

Claire Bergerson also contributed at the plate, going 3 for 4 with 2 RBIs and 3 runs scored. Left Fielder Maya Juman also chipped in going 3 for 3 with one RBI and 3 runs scored.

Lady Sting Softball’s bats came to life in the second inning. In the inning Lady Sting Softball scored 17 runs. Lady Sting Softball scored in the second on , a three-run triple by Rakia Islam, a solo home run by Claire Bergerson, an RBI single by Jamie Carroll, a wild pitch, an RBI double by Maya Juman,a three-run home run by Costa, and an RBI single by Amanda Eng.

BSGE Lady Sting is currently 3-0

Claire Bergerson leads Lady Sting to 21-1 win over Long Island City

Claire Bergerson hit two home runs to carry Lady Sting to a 21-1 win over Long Island City at Long Island City in five innings. Bergerson racked up six RBIs on three hits and also pitched five innings while giving up only one run.

Fifteen runs in the opening three innings allowed Lady Sting to easily put away Long Island City.

Lady Sting Softball got its bats going early, scoring 12 runs in the first inning to pull ahead of Long Island City .

Third baseman, Jamie Carroll, also contributed offensively with four hits in five at bats driving in three runs.

BSGE Girls Softball Wins Season Opener 20-0

 An outstanding effort by Claire Bergerson lifted Lady Sting Softball to a 20-0 win in four innings over Young Women’s Leadership on Tuesday, March 29th, at Big Bush Park.

Bergerson blasted two home runs for Lady Sting Softball. Bergerson went 3-4 in the game with three RBIs and two runs scored. Bergerson homered twice in the second inning.

The biggest inning for Lady Sting Softball was the second. In the inning Lady Sting Softball scored 15 runs. Lady Sting Softball scored in the second on a wild pitch, a two-run single by Rakia Islam, a two-run single by Nina Don, a two-run home run by Emily Costa, a solo home run by Bergerson, an RBI single by Peyton Heron, an RBI single by Marika Cygert, a fielder’s choice, a two-run triple by Costa, and a two-run home run by Bergerson.

Political Primaries 101

What is a primary election? Why do we have primary elections?
We have two major parties in our nation today, the Republican and Democratic parties.  Within each party, there is a variety of opinions and sometimes there is more than one person in a party who wants run for a particular office.  A primary is the election within a party to choose the candidate to represent that party in the general election.  It’s like the election before the election.  There are primaries for many different offices such as President, Senate, Mayor, city council, etc.

How does our primary process work?
When it comes to the Presidential Primary elections, each party decides when each state has its vote.  In 2012, the primary elections started in January with Iowa and finish up in June in Washington D.C..
