BSGE 2023-2024 Basketball Season

BSGE 2023-2024 Basketball Season

BSGE has had a rough history with both the boys and girls basketball teams. We went from 1-13 to 1-19 in 2 seasons. We all hope that our school team has a great season this year after the basketball tryouts. Even with new players, the team still will have a tough season because teams like Maspeth High School and Renaissance Charter School will always come out on top of them. Even though we still have a very hard division, our team still has a lot of young talent after the tryouts.

Last year, we had a record of 1-19, which was second to last place. Our only win was against the last place team, which was the East-West School for International Studies. We won that game 35-28 away from home. It was the school team’s first win after a 4 game loss streak. Then, the team finished the season with a 15 game loss streak. The team did not make the playoffs and remained one of the worst teams in the Queens Division.

In the 2021-2022 season, the school team finished the season with a 1-13 record. The game that we won was against the Frank Sinatra School for the Arts, which we were away from home. The score was a close one, 46-40. This was our first and only win of the season, where we were 1-6. Then, we had a 6 loss streak. Again, we did not make the playoffs. We were second to last place yet again. But, this time, we were above the Frank Sinatra School of the Arts.

However for the Girls Basketball teams, we did very well last year. They had a 10-2 record, which was the first in their division. The next best team was Jamaica High school, who had a record of 9-3, which was one win away from tying with BSGE. However, the year before, in 2021-2022, we had a 13-2 record, which dropped us down to 3rd place. The team had a lot of games that were postponed, which ultimately dropped our chances at getting first place.

Both of BSGE’s basketball teams have done well this season, but still strive to improve. With rapid turnover with coaches and players, the teams have struggled, but continue to do their best under the circumstances. The BSGE community looks forward to the team’s growth and future success.
