With the new year, everyone has their own personal resolutions. While we all have our different aspirations, there’s something special about our students here at BSGE. Through interviewing these students, we will get to learn about their goals, not only as teenagers, but as individuals with personal achievements. So, this year, we will take a look at how BSGE is approaching these goals to make 2025 their best year yet!
An eighth grade student at BSGE, hopes to limit her screen time hours. She believes high amounts of screen time can result in anxiety and behavioral dysregulation. She also believes that when she is not on her phone often, she completes all her work efficiently without distraction. It allows more time for productivity instead of scrolling. With all this being said, this student is also a big reader, but feels as if she hasn’t read as much as she used to due to excessive screen usage. She hopes to set aside more time to read in 2025. With two of her resolutions focused around beneficial habits, she hopes it will help her with her academics. Being in an IB school and taking pre-IB courses can make getting perfect grades tough, but with determination and focus, her goal is to achieve an IB 6 or 7 in all of her classes.
An eleventh grader who is under a lot of pressure due to the upcoming SAT and preparing for college, says her resolution is to be extremely strict with time management. She plans to have a rigid schedule for Monday-Friday and will try her best to stick to it. However, she wants to have fun, so plans “to make the best of the little time” she can spare with “family and friends.” It seems as though even when she has to prepare rigorously for looming challenges of junior year, she still values the bonds she shares with close ones.
Another eighth grader, Annabelle Galan, says she wants to cut down on spending for things that aren’t necessities, in hopes to save money for important things. These things include investing in her education, buying more books, traveling, and helping people in need. Annabelle believes this resolution will help teach discipline, and differentiating wants and needs. To commit to this resolution, she said she will try to “avoid random purchases” and “track her spending.” She hopes that eventually this will teach her responsibility and commitment.
Setting goals are important for keeping yourself responsible and motivated each year, granting yourself a moment to reset and look forward. BSGE students have vastly different resolutions for the upcoming year, but all share the determination and commitment to being the best version of themselves in 2025.
