The 2026 soccer World Cup is a major event that the whole world is going to participate in. It begins on the 11th of June, 2026 and ends on the 19th of July, 2026. Since there would be too many teams if every nation participated, there is a qualifying tournament that is held per continent and it allows only 48 countries to join; the others who didn’t qualify can participate in the next World Cup. This coming World Cup will be co-hosted by Canada, Mexico and the United States, meaning that games will be held in different countries and teams would have to travel to play other nations. This will be the first time the tournament is held across three nations.
For the 2026 World Cup, the qualifying tournament has already begun and is going well. The qualifying tournament will end next year in March after all the different continents are done with their qualification tournament. Many people are looking forward to it, especially soccer/football fans.
But what do BSGE students think? A 10th grader said that they think Spain will win because of their young talent Lamine Yamal who is 17 but just dominates professional teams making them look average.
Another student who is also a 10th grader stated that France will win due to their very good players like the Ballon D’or award-winner Ousmane Dembele and their young talents like Desire Doue.
Another soccer fan who is a freshman said that England would have a really good chance of winning since they are always known for doing really well in international competitions and also because they have experienced players and a brilliant manager.
In conclusion, teams who have been dominating these international competitions are still being expected to do so. Most of the students I interviewed believed that a European team is most likely to win. Overall it’s clear that teams like Spain, France and England are considered favourites.
