Barcelona and Real Madrid have known to be major rivals for multiple decades now, in a rivalry that is famously known as El Classico. Recently the opponents have faced off against each other in the Spanish Super Cup. The match was held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia and was very dramatic with star players like Raphina scoring the opening goal for Barcelona in the 35th minute, Vinicius Jr. scoring the equalizer for Real Madrid in the 46th minute, Lewandowski scoring in the 48th minute only 2 minutes after, Gonzalo Garcia scoring in the 51st minute, and Raphina scoring the game winner in the 73rd minute, ending the game with a score of 3-2 in favor of Barcelona.
Furthermore, towards the end of the game a red card was given to Frankie de Jong, leaving Barcelona with only ten players in their final minutes. Ultimately, Barcelona remained as the better team, securing a 93% pass accuracy with 567 passes made, as well as 14 shots that were attempted compared to Barcelona’s meager 80% pass accuracy with 262 passes and only 10 shots attempted.
Barcelona has truly improved their game, averaging more wins in matches against Real Madrid in recent years, and during the game, Barcelona demonstrated their midfield control and quick passing which allowed them to stay in possession of the ball for a majority of the game, while Real Madrid struggled to organize themselves defensively and were vulnerable to counterattacks, which is primarily why Real Madrid’s previous manager Xabi Alonso was replaced after the match with Alvaro Arbeloa.
One tenth grader in the BSGE soccer team stated the following: “The game was for real dramatic and Raphina really made the difference for Barcelona as he scored the first and last goals.” In addition, another tenth grader stated, “Real Madrid’s defense was extremely weak compared to Barcelona’s, which is what led to them losing the game.”
However, a different 10th grader, after being notified of the opinion of the previous tenth grader, countered the claim by stating “Real Madrid’s defense wasn’t the best because a lot of key players on the team were injured like Mbappe who had high expectations but weren’t necessarily able to meet them due to a knee injury.” In conclusion, there are various different opinions concerning the match but Barcelona ended up being the rightful winners showing their excellence in their attacking and defending capabilities against Real Madrid, and their ability to capitalize on Real Madrid’s poor defense.
