As the soccer season is coming to an end, our team is coming back victorious for the 3rd year in a row. This 2024 season the team consists of 26 players, many of whom are playing for their first time on a high school team. With a current total of 8 wins and 1 loss, BSGE FC is the 2nd best team in the district.
Our team is so much more than just amazing playoffs and endless victories. There is a supportive community with great captains who are loved and respected.
This season there are seven freshmen, three returning sophomores, thirteen juniors, and 3 seniors, for some of them this may be the last time on the field during their high school career.
This year’s captains are Rayan Elashry, Rayyan Kapde, and David Cazales. The team’s 11th grade captain Rayan played 9 games, made 11 shots, and scored 5 goals. David played 9 games, 10 shots, and 1 goal. Senior Captain Rayyan has played all 4 seasons. This season played 8 games, made 8 shots, and scored 4 goals.
Rayan says “soccer is a fun way to learn teamwork and to be able to work well with other people both in school and outside of school from different cultures and backgrounds.”
Playing on any team, whether in or outside of school, benefits your social life and physical health. Sophomore Leo Vercosa believes that “no matter your skill level, everyone is friendly and supported by other teammates and students that come to games.” Even for students who aren’t on the team, there is an entire community of students who show up to practices and games to support the team.
If you are interested in being involved but didn’t make the team or don’t enjoy sports, the team also consists of multiple managers who do smaller tasks like cleaning up or refilling water bottles. The soccer team is debatably the most loved sport in this school and has the most players trying out every year.
Senior night is many players’ favorite memory on the team. It’s a night to celebrate the senior’s last year on the team and to remember all friendships and memories made during their time on BSGE FC. Next year they will move on to the next chapter of their life, and we are all looking forward to seeing which player will join the community next year.
